LWD inaugurates water supply system project in Kampong Speu province
Kampong Speu Province (Apr 08, 2016) – Life with Dignity (LWD) today inaugurated a Water Supply System Project, worth USD40,000, in Tuek Thla village, Dambouk Roung commune of Phnom Sruoch district in Kampong Speu province, some 30 km from the district town.
The project was funded by ALWS, Bread for the World, Church of Sweden, DCA/CA, ELCA, FCA and JELA with a contribution of about $5,000 from the community in Tuek Thla, Mean Serey and Trapeang Thom villages. The project, which was administered by LWD, aimed to address one of several top priorities of the rural community that are facing the lack of water for their daily consumption and irrigation.
The newly constructed water supply system is composed of a water tower which can store 10 cubic meters of water and a set of pumping machine. The project benefited 266 families (or equalled to 1,181 people, half of them female).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ms. Sambath Rachna, LWD Area Program Manager, expressed her profound thanks to all donors for their generous support to empower the rural poor in Cambodia. She also deeply thanked the local authorities at all levels, the communities and the Provincial Departments of Water Resources for their strong cooperation and technical support to make the project possible.
Ms. Rachna said that improving access to water and sanitation, and community-based disaster risk management were parts of the key components of LWD’s integrated community development program. “Without the active participation of the community here, this project will not be completed successfully,” she said.
In his remarks, Mr. Prak Saron, Deputy Governor to Phnom Sruoch District, sincerely thanked LWD and its donors for their generous support for the project. He requested the community to take part in the protection and maintenance of the achievement for longer use.
